Principal Platform Engineer (Remote)

We are seeking a principal level engineer with experience operating Kubernetes in production. Our ideal candidate will have solved real-world problems using automation to deploy and operate software running in Kubernetes. You will serve as a subject matter expert, provide technical leadership, and make strong individual contributions.

Responsibilities

  • Development and maintenance of Helm Charts used to deploy dozens of mission-critical services to Kubernetes.
  • Development and maintenance of Terraform used to maintain the cloud infrastructure that hosts Kubernetes clusters.
  • Development and maintenance of GitLab CI/CD pipelines used to perform automated testing and releases.
  • Troubleshooting issues at all layers of the platform stack ranging from node-level issues to higher level Kubernetes abstractions like CRDs.
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to less experienced engineers.
  • Communicating and coordinating across teams.
  • Collaborating and communicating with stakeholders.
  • Working with an Agile team and embracing DevSecOps principles.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong Kubernetes subject matter expertise with at least three years experience operating Kubernetes in production environments.
  • Experience building and maintaining AWS infrastructure with Terraform.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using popular tooling such as GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
  • A strong understanding of networking in cloud environments.
  • An understanding of zero trust security principles.
  • The ability to obtain DoD 8570 IAT Level II or higher credentials, such as CompTIA Security+. We will cover the costs of certification.
  • This is a remote position with occasional travel required.

Highly Desired

  • Experience shipping software into production as a software engineer.
  • Familiarity with authentication and authorization protocols such as OIDC.
  • History of contributing to open source projects. (Opening issues and participating in discussions counts!)
